Thanks to the love that binds us with the territory, this project was born in 2019 on the slopes of Mount Cenapora, 800 meters above sea level. A small vineyard planted in 1986 was bequeathed to us by our grandfather Peppe, so it was important to take on this path which has now grown thanks to the will to safeguard Lucanian biodiversity and to give value to the autochthonous species of our region.
Basilicata is not only Aglianico del Vulture, and after carrying out careful studies, we discovered that Alsia (the Lucanian Agency for development and innovation in agriculture) in conjunction with the Basilicata Region, had worked on a project for the safeguarding of Lucanian wine heritage with the book Basivin Sud, a project that has given the opportunity to discover the biodiversity of Lucanian grapes. We immediately took action to understand which varieties were within our territorial area that had been kept alive over the centuries by the farmers of the area, but above all, we wanted to understand what our small vineyard contained that grandfather Peppe had left to us as a gift.
The discovery was amazing, where one grape in particular was of immense importance; COLATAMMURRO, a red berried grape that had managed to resist even the phylloxera of 1919 and which is still able to resist the fungal diseases of the vine today. There were also other grapes, both white and red, such as GIOSIANA, LA IUSANA, MALVASIA BIANCA DI BASILICATA, AGLIANICO BIANCO and IL MUSCATIDD ‘as well as AGLIANICO, which we were able to recover from vineyards that are over 80 years old. We owe one farmer in particular who immediately supported us with the project and helped us in the cataloguing of these ancient autochthonous varieties, preserving and passing them on.
From this point forward it was a succession of studies and insights that lead us to plant over the next 2 years. It is within our 1 hectare vineyard where you will find these native Lucanian vines which are conducted using a biodynamic regime, ensuring that almost perfect balance that is created between man and nature. Our territory is still yet to be discovered and it is our great mission to tell the world that BASILICATA EXISTS AND IS BEAUTIFUL! We must have the courage to vinify new varieties, experiment with different winemaking techniques without banality, but above all, without showing fear of making a mistake, DARING MORE!
